Artist Training Mentorship Programme

Developing Artists. Building Independent Practice.

Becoming an artist is about far more than learning how to paint.

It is about developing the ability to observe, think independently, exercise sound judgement and build a meaningful artistic practice that continues to evolve throughout life.

My Artist Training Mentorship Programme is a highly individual programme for complete beginners, emerging artists and practising painters who are committed to serious artistic development.

Rooted in traditional academic principles and informed by many years of professional practice, the programme brings together drawing, oil painting, studio practice, plein air training and long-term individual mentorship.

Every artist arrives with different strengths, experiences, ambitions and ways of learning.

For this reason, I do not follow a standard curriculum.

Each programme is designed around the individual artist, providing the guidance, challenge and structure needed for genuine development.

My role is not simply to teach technique.

It is to recognise potential, develop individual strengths and help artists build the confidence, judgement and independence required to sustain a lifelong artistic practice.

As the programme develops, mentorship may naturally extend beyond painting itself to include the professional presentation of work, portfolio development, exhibitions, competitions and the practical realities of an artistic career.

The aim is never to create artists who paint alike.

It is to help each artist develop the technical ability, confidence and artistic maturity to create work that is authentic, personal and enduring.

Who is the programme for?

The programme welcomes:

  • Complete beginners wishing to build strong foundations from the outset.

  • Emerging artists seeking structure, confidence and clear artistic direction.

  • Practising artists looking to strengthen their work, refine their practice or prepare for the next stage of their artistic journey.

Previous experience is not essential. The programme does, however, require commitment, discipline and a willingness to invest the time, space and resources that serious artistic development demands.

Applicants must be prepared to establish a consistent working practice and complete substantial independent work between sessions.

How the mentorship works

Every mentorship is unique.

Depending on the artist’s individual needs, the programme may combine online mentoring, studio training, plein air painting, scheduled in-person intensives and long-term professional guidance.

The programme develops as the artist develops.

Applying

To ensure every artist receives the highest level of individual attention, places are limited and offered by application.

The first step is to request an Application Form.

Following review, selected applicants may be invited to an Initial Consultation before a personalised programme of mentorship is proposed.
